Tēnā koutou e te whānau , ko tēnei te pānui whakamutunga mō te tau.

We have had a crazy busy past few weeks here at Te Kura O Tuahiwi. Last week our Kāhu Year 7 and 8 ākonga went to Gore bay for camp. They had an awesome time and really enjoyed being out in Te Taiao together.A big mihi to Whaea Crisanna and Whaea Nush for the organisation of this camp. Also a big mihi to our whānau who came along to tautoko. We couldn't do what we do without you all.

This week we had support from Matua Mark and Matua Reuben who are working with youth in Tuahiwi supporting them with learning about agriculture and building. The tamariki came along to Te Kura O Tuahiwi on Monday to tautoko us with our new māra ka. We saw tuākana/ teina in action and they and our tamariki helped to fill the planter boxes with vegemix and then planted all of our seedlings. We are so grateful for this support and look forward to building a relationship together. A big mihi to Whaea Ruiha for organising this connection for us. The māra looks amazing and is plentiful with Kai.

Some of our akomanga have celebrated the end of year with trips out to Jelly park, Hanmer, the gardens, ten pin bowling, laser strike and Dudley pools.

On Thursday afternoon we have a dinner with our Tau 7 and 8 and then we whakanui and farewell  them at Puāwaitanga. Puāwai is to bloom / flourish and this is exactly what we have seen over the year. We feel sad to farewell our Year 8's but know that their sense of tuakiri/ identity and ūkaipōtanga/ knowledge of where they come from will support them with their transition on to Secondary school.

Sadly one of our long standing kaiako Whaea Melissa will be no longer officially be a kaiako in our kura, however she wants to remain connected to us and could potentially come back next year in a different capacity. We thank Whaea Melissa for her commitment and dedication to our kura and her love and passion for our tamariki and their learning.

Next year there will be a few changes in staff. Whaea Awhina will take on a differing role in our Kura as a Resource teacher of Māori and Whaea Katrina will be the kaiako in Pīwakawaka.

I thank Whaea Awhina for her commitment to our kura and the aroha and manaakitanga she has shown our tamariki, staff and whānau. We are so happy and grateful that Whaea Awhina will continue to be an asset to our Kura.

Whaea Andrea will be on study leave next year on Hoaka Pounamu and Matua Beau will be the kaiako in Tau 4/5 in Kōtare. We wish her all the best but know that she will continue to shine her light on our kura. She did say though that there is to be no fun while she is away!!

We have a new kaiako Georgia who will be in Korimako next year with our Tau 2/3 and Whaea Hireke and Whaea Connie will be the kaiako in Pukeko with Tau 3/4.

Whaea Robyn will be in Kāhu Tau 6-8 and Matua Te Aho will be teaching Pūtaiao two days a week.

A big congratulations to Whaea Michelle who will be our ASL / Across School Lead next year and Whaea Michelle and Whaea Vicki will be the kaiako in Kiwi.

I look forward to the diversity in our Kura and the skills and strengths that our new kaiako will bring to Te Kura O Tuahiwi.

I would like to mihi to my leadership team Michelle, Awhina, Andrea, Crisanna and Kate for all of your hard work and aroha you bring to our Kura. We would not be who we are without all of you putting in the hard yards. An extra mihi to Crisanna and Kate also for supporting me in my role as Tumuaki.

I am so proud of all of you and the determination you have to ensure Te Kura O Tuahiwi is a special place to be.

I would like to thank our Board of trustees who help guide the strategic direction of our kura and who also support me in my role.

Have a wonderful xmas and I will see you all in the new year.

Safe travels!

Kia haumaru te noho,

Whaea Dot
