On Wednesday kaiako who belong to the education union, NZEI Te Riu Roa met to discuss the current offer from the Ministry of Education. What was it all about?

There are many whakaaro that people have around the mahi of our kaiako. Some of them include the perception that we only work from 9-3.

Our kaiako need more tautoko as teaching as we knew it has changed. The standard 40 hour week (which was never actually standard) has morphed into a 60+ hour work week leaving many of our kaiako feeling drained.

We love what we do. We love our tamariki, whānau, hapori and our kura and because of this we want to ensure that everyone gets the best from us and that teaching remains an attractive profession for our young people to get into.

Take a look at some of the pānui attached from Green Grubs (ka mihi atu) and have a kōrero to the kaiako of your tamaiti about what they would like to see for the future of their profession.
