A beautiful Sky in Christchurch this week

Welcome to Course Choice 2024

The curriculum offered at Darfield High School enables every student to participate in the eight Learning Areas of the New Zealand Curriculum, in order to gain the knowledge and understanding needed for a broad and balanced education. They provide the context within which knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values are developed.

Students complete 6 option subjects in Year 9. To select, choose one option for each column. For each option line (81 and 82), you can show your order of preference by placing your most preferred option into column A and least into C. To ensure a balanced curriculum, you must choose at least one option from each learning area, ie Technology, Arts, Languages (either Te Reo Māori or Japanese). Rural College and Literacy and Numeracy support are optional learning areas. For languages, you may choose to do one rotation or two consecutive rotations. If you choose part 2, you must also choose part 1. Please make sure you select an alternate option in case one of your choices are not available.

Students have four option subjects in Year 10, two for terms 1 & 2, two for terms 3 & 4. Choose one option for each column (81A, 81B, 82A, 82B). For languages, you may choose to do a half year or a full year course. If you intend to do a language in Year 11, you should choose to do a full year by selecting Terms 1 & 2 and Terms 3 & 4. If you want to do only a half year, then select Terms 1 & 2. Please make sure you select an alternate option in case your first choice is not available.
