Why do we celebrate Niuean Language Week at Three Kings School?
• To raise awareness of the Niuean language and culture
• To involve and encourage our children, and staff to take part in celebrating Niuean Language Week
• To promote initiatives to maintain and grow the recognition, learning the Niuean language in the home, in education, work, government, media, sports, arts, church and in the community.
Did you Know?
• Niue is one of the smallest countries on earth and the largest raised coral atoll.
• The island is commonly referred to as “The Rock” • Niuean’s are citizens of New Zealand.
• The capital of Niue is the village of Alofi. • Niue pronounced “New-e for example ‘e’ as in ‘end’ – which means ‘behold the coconut’
• Niue peoples are the fourth largest Pacific community living in Aotearoa New Zealand • Most Niue peoples in the world (74 percent) were born in New Zealand.
