Our Tihiraki North Loburn School - Principal Update

Peter Richmond - February 10, 2022

We are well into week 2 and I have seen some wonderful things happening at school. Read more below.

Today I was invited by a group of Manuka students to join them for lunch. This being my first experience with Garden to Table, I was blown away by the student's knowledge and what they had achieved. I was welcomed then taught about what learning had happened, and shown to my table where I was presented with a bowl of soup containing barley, zucchini, tomatoes and more. Alongside this was zucchini soda bread and for dessert, zucchini chocolate flavoured muffins. Wow! Safe to say I ate it all.

This was only one of the wonderful experiences I have had within my first two weeks, and it is clear to see the community plays such a huge part in fostering the development of North Loburn tamariki. I am sure I will say this many times, thank you to those parents and grandparents that help, especially with today's GTT.

All students are running around happy to be with friends and this socialisation is such an important part of schooling. Socialisation includes learning to solve problems with each other and experiencing creative, imaginative playground play which is evident as I walk past listening to the "hooting" coming from the trees. I was also fortunate enough to be on duty for “Wheelie Wednesday”. Watching a group of boy’s tear around the bike track laughing made me wish I had brought my bike.

We had a good turnout for our Parent Community Evening. We do hope to have more, so please watch out for future events.  This is also a good time to remind families to download the HERO app or sign in online to get classroom and community notices. Instructions on how to download this can be found in the link here.
