What an exceptional night we had on 31 October as we farewelled our fine young Year 13 students, and celebrated another successful year at senior level.

The TBHS Second Hand Uniform Sale will be held on Friday 8 December from 1pm (following Junior Prizegiving) until 4:30pm. 

Congratulations to Ryan Greenslade for being appointed Head Boy for 2018. We know Ryan will do his utmost to honour the position and to discharge its duties effectively in support of students, staff and our wider community. Ryan is joined by Mac Edwards and Tyler Sparks, each as Deputy Head Boy, and James Watt, our newly appointed House Captain.

A change to tradition saw the announcing of 2018 school prefects and leaders at this year’s Senior Prizegiving.

We have named our Thomas House Senior Student Leaders for 2018. 

Senior Art students have been busy over the three levels in Visual Art, preparing their external folios ready for assessment. 

Late Term 3, school staff (including all 72 teaching and support staff) were presented with a 15 cm square canvas to decorate.

This year we are asking all Year 10 students going into Year 11 in 2018, and Year 11 students going into Year 12, to have an extended text to read over the holidays.

As I type out this newsletter and look out occasionally at the brilliant Hawkes Bay sunshine, I have to tell you I have confession to make – I’m thoroughly enjoying my involvement with the Timaru Boys’ High School Old Boys’ Association! 

Our 2018 Year 9 boarders stayed a night in the House last week, giving an opportunity for them to all meet up and have a wee taste of boarding before they arrive officially to start next year.

The Royal Thai Embassy in Wellington will be organising “the 6th Thai-NZ Language and Cultural Students Exchange Programme” during 12 January – 13 February 2018 in Thailand.

Congratulations to Cullen Grace who was named Aoraki Secondary Schools' Sportsman of the Year, an exceptional feat achieved among stiff competition that also included TBHS students Taine Gibson and Riley Taylor as finalists in this category.

2017 saw our largest team attend the South Island MTB Championships in many years. For three days during the third term holidays, twelve of our boys slid through some muddy hillsides as Dunedin turned on its “liquid sunshine” for us. 

Congratulations to our Rugby 7s team who have won the Canterbury title for the first time.

Timaru Boys’ is grateful to our First XV Rugby Captain, Cullen Grace, who has kindly donated his New Zealand Schools' rugby jersey to the school, to be placed on display.

The PB4L Committee and TBHS staff have had a very busy and productive year continuing to develop the POWER values in which the school takes pride.
