Time for me to sign off. This being my last newsletter. It’s a strange feeling really. An odd sensation.

Our Rector, Mr Nick McIvor leaves us at the end of term to commence his tenure as Rector of King's High School in Dunedin.

With the departure of our Rector Mr McIvor, our Deputy Rectors Mr Rod Sparrow and Mr Ross Stevenson will temporarily fill the Rector role until the new appointee arrives. This is anticipated to be at the beginning of Term 4.

The Rector’s position has been advertised and the following timeline is on target:

The annual exchange was played in superb weather and ground conditions in Timaru on Wednesday 3 July.

Otago Boys’ High decisively took the honours in the annual exchange played in fine but cool conditions in Dunedin on Tuesday 18 June.

The annual winter exchange was played in good conditions in both Timaru and Christchurch on Monday 10 June.

On 4 July, our Year 12 students were required to be at school dressed in clothes that they deemed appropriate to wear to a job interview.

Congratulations to Matt Kennedy, Hayden Jefferson and Callum Bowmar who participated in the Food and Beverage 2019 Competition held at Ara in Christchurch, a competition that saw each of them walking away with medals - this was an outstanding result as each of them chose to compete in Open sections with trainee chefs.

To assist Matt Kennedy and Callum Bowmar with costs associated with attending the New Zealand Secondary Schools’ Culinary Challenge Grand Final held in Auckland in September, they will be hosting a Restaurant Event on Friday 2 August at 6:00pm.

Year 13 student, Bailey Lissington, is assisting with the Electronics Club and has been teaching our boys about Arduino chips and sensors and how to programme them, before they commence on creating some projects.

The 2019 Rite Journey Sing Off was held on Friday 28 June in Hogben Hall.

Our warmest congratulations go out to Frederik Lichtfuss, our first International Student to complete and pass his Private Pilot's License (PPL).

The Sports Council has been up and running for just over 18 months now at TBHS.

Congratulations to Ross McCulloch who has been selected to represent Canterbury at the upcoming Junior Provincials Indoor Cricket tournament to be held in Auckland, 13-15 July.

On a recent trip to the University of Canterbury, our Year 12 Physics students had the opportunity of visiting Rutherford's Den, at the Christchurch Arts Centre.

Congratulations to our students who recently participated in the annual Smokefree Rockquest regional final held at Mountainview High School.

A cold frosty morning on Tuesday 18 June had the promise of sunshine all day, which made for the best weather we’ve had out on the Levels Raceway for Aoraki Road Cycling in many years.

TBHS had two teams competing in the Aoraki Junior Basketball Tournament on Wednesday.

The 46th edition of this massive event came to Timaru over the weekend of 15-16 June.

South Canterbury Motorcycle Club held their end of season prizegiving on Saturday 29 June.

A number of our young men assisted at the Special Olympics Football event held at Alpine Energy Stadium recently.

Well done to our TBHS school choir who participated in the Big Sing Competition, held in Dunedin on 12 June.

The TBHS 2019 Pest Tail Competition is underway, running from 5 June to 26 July (Week 1, Term 3).

All students enrolled in NCEA will have been given their NSN (National Student Number) cards which has instructions on logging on to the system for the first time or the log in address to use if they are previous users.

Year 12 and Year 13 students will be invited to purchase a ball ticket later in Term 3.

The Food Technology Department has an ongoing requirement for Ice Cream containers and takeaway food containers.

These take place from Thursday 15/8 to Wednesday 21/8.

This takes place on the last Friday of Term 3 for all seniors.

The TBHS PTA is seeking donations of second hand uniforms as a fundraiser for the PTA – a clean uniform with a bit of life left in it will be gratefully received!
