Madidi in Bolivia's Amazon Basin is the protected area with the world's largest number of birds, mammals, plants and butterfly species registered. And second in species of amphibians and reptiles.

We arrived after a very short and scenic 30 minute trip from El Alto airport.

We get collected by our tour guide nice and early for our trip to Madidi Park's entrance, 2 hours drive from Rurre, where we ditch the car for riverboat.

After dropping off our bags we had lunch and then some rest time in the hammocks before the afternoon's planned exploring.

Although we were late to bed the night before, our guide reassured us not to worry because the 'jungle alarm clock' will get is up early for another full day of exploring.

The promise of going on an anaconda hunt was one of the activities we most looked forward to. The chance of finding a snake in the wild for our first time was really exciting, especially in the Amazon and it being the king of boa constrictors.

After the anaconda hunt, we had a couple of hours for lunch and getting cleaned up before a nice afternoon of fishing, which would have been beautifully relaxing if we weren't fishing for piranhas!

Our last day at the eco-lodge was much colder so our guide took us for one last trip on the river and we came across an adorable family of squirrel monkeys and some fishing river dolphins 🐒🐬

We checked out the Sunday markets on the town's riverbank and then got our flight back up to the mountains of La Paz.
