Cathy Shearer —

Tips to guide students towards making informed decisions about their future tertiary or vocational paths (plus upcoming events).

Preparing for your future is crucial, whether you're considering tertiary education or vocational pathways. Here are some tips to help you along the way:

  1. Explore your interests and strengths. Reflect on what subjects and activities you enjoy and excel in. This will guide you towards a suitable career path.

  2. Research different pathways: Understand the requirements and opportunities of both tertiary education and vocational training to make an informed decision.

  3. Talk to your family, your LA, teachers, and the Careers Adviser: Seek guidance on career options, course selection, and application processes based on your interests and goals.

  4. Build skills: Engage in extracurricular activities, work experience/job shadowing, or part-time jobs to develop technical and soft skills that align with your chosen path.

  5. Work on study habits. Develop effective study routines, time management skills, and organisation techniques to excel academically in your chosen field.

  6. Network: Attend career expos, workshops, or presentations to connect with industry experts and gain insights into your desired field.

  7. Stay motivated and focused. Keep your goals in mind, stay positive, and persevere through challenges to achieve success in your chosen pathway.
