Principal's Word - Term 1 Week 10

Kia ora everyone!

Another short week and my final Principal's word for this term as next week I will be on my way to China!

As I reflect on this term, it always astounds me how much we are able to cram in, both inside and outside the classroom. Our students are offered so many opportunities and this was reinforced yesterday by ex-student Niamh O'Donnell who spoke at our academic assembly about the opportunities she was offered here that weren't available to her colleagues who attended bigger schools. For example, today we have students on a Biology field trip at the Eco Sanctuary, students at South Canterbury Swimming and some students on the way to Invercargill for a basketball competition and tomorrow we have student competing in South Island Athletics. There is always something happening!

As I mentioned earlier, yesterday we held our academic assembly to celebrate endorsement certificates that students achieved last year. Our students did exceptionally well and we acknowledged Karys McKenzie as being awarded a First Foundation Scholarship, one of only 84 awarded from more than 500 applications. Karys receives mentored support, paid work experience and $12,000 of financial support over 4 years. Well done Karys!

Heads up for next term, we are holding a teacher only day on 31 May which is the Friday before Kings birthday, so the school will be closed on that day. We will also be closed for the Matariki holiday on Friday 28 June.

Have a great weekend and I'll be back in touch Term 2.
