Principal's Word - Term 1 Week 1

    by Jo Hunnikin

Kia ora Everyone!

It is great to be back at school welcoming our students. Today was the first day that everyone was back at school and we marked this with a whole school mihi whakatau at the front of our building. Thank you to our prefects for stepping up to run the proceedings and to Paul Cartlidge, Principal of St Patricks who spoke on behalf of our new students. We welcomed a large number of new students - close to 70! We have new students at almost every year level this year - bringing our total roll to over 300 students for the first time in 10 years!

As well as new students, we also welcome new staff to our school.

  • Miss Aimee Fawcett - our new DP and teacher of Music
  • Mr Aaron Harbour - our Head of Science
  • Mrs Sheryl Culling - Science
  • Miss Nicole Wong - Social Sciences and Maths
  • Mrs Cathy Shearer - Careers and International
  • Mrs Allison Froese - Art (arriving from Canada soon!)
  • Miss Lauren Williams - PE
  • Ms Estelle Claassen - Food (arriving on  1st March)

Ms Sangwan left us right at the end of last year to move to Auckland and we wish her well for her new position at Takapuna Grammar.

More good news is our NCEA results - they were even better than last year!!!

Level 1 - 86%

Level 2 - 92%

Level 3 - 83%

Congratulations to our students! We are so proud of you.

Over the next couple of weeks we will be sending out information on our new fortnightly reporting criteria. We will also be holding meet and greet evenings to inform parents about "1 hour per day" in reading, writing and numeracy teaching as well as the NCEA changes so keep an eye on our calendar for those dates.

Enjoy your weekend,

Jo
