Mobile Library to visit Wairakei School

Simon Adkins & Shane BucknerFebruary 14, 2017

While we do not have access to our own school library because of the refurbishments taking place, we have planned a couple of visits from the Chch City Council Mobile Library during the term.

This Friday, 17th February 2017, we are having our first visit from the Mobile Library.

The visiting librarian, Anne Harding, will be taking lessons for our children. She will read with a group of children in a teaching space for 30 minutes. The old Tui space is going to be used for this.

Anne then takes the children to the conveniently parked van for selecting and issuing. As she interacts with the individual children the rest are encouraged to read the books she has brought with her. These books will be displayed outside. Being near the Tui space means the veranda can be made use of if the weather is poor.

Each Learning Community will have 1 hour with Anne. However due to numbers, only half of each learning community will visit this time, and the other half on the next visit.

A notice will be going home on Wednesday. This is to encourage existing card holders to bring their cards on Friday and to provide non-card holders a chance to sign up (via parental permission). Those signing up won't be issued books on Friday as their details will need to be entered onto the database.

The timetable for this Friday is:

11:00 - 11:50/12:00 Half of Wai-iti Learning Community

12:30 - 1:30 Half of Wairere Learning Community

2:00 - 3:00 Half of Otakaro Learning Community

Feel free to send along your child's library card or even come along at the times above and register yourself and your child!
