Stop Motion Matariki - Te Ngahere

Into week 3! Read this article to find about upcoming events, reminders of camp forms to fill out, and what we've been up to in Maths and Literacy.

Upcoming Events

With Production a big focus this term, and Camp in a little over 6 weeks, here are a number of events happening for select students.

North Canterbury Cantamaths - August 2nd

Good luck to our Year 6 team!

Senior Assembly - August 4th

Starting at 9.15am this week.

Winter Tournament - August 8th

Hockey, Rugby, Football, and Netball

Shoeboxes

For our technology unit that Mr Langlands is doing for our students not in the production, he is doing a call out for shoeboxes, if anyone could kindly donate some, please send them to school with your child to Mr Langlands. Thank you!

Camp Health and Transport Form Reminder

With camp fast approaching thank you to the families that have filled these out already.

We have two forms for families to fill out if their child is coming to camp.

Fill out the mandatory google health/medical form here.

Fill out the mandatory google transport form here.

Please email m.crawford@woodend.school.nz if you have any issues, or are missing information.

Bunk rooms

We do our best to make sure children attending camp are in bunk rooms with friends. We take student voice through a form that Te Ngahere fills out with who they would like to have in their bunk rooms. We will be assembling these over the next few weeks.

Maths Focus - Multiplication and Division

In mathematics this week, our focus has been on multiplication and division. We learned to work out new multiplication facts from facts we already know. To show how that works, ask your student which facts could be worked out from 8 x 5 = 40.

He or she might say that 8 x 5 and 4 x 10 have the same answer. They might say that 8 x 7 must be 16 more than 40 and explain why. There are lots of other connected facts.

Now is a good time for your student to practice their basic multiplication facts at home and school. You might like to find out what facts they know and help them to learn the facts they do not.

Writing Focus - Persuasion

In Writing, we have been working on structuring persuasive letters to convince the reader something. We've had some hilarious entries, with an argument to purchase a brown cat, a friend to subscribe to Neon, and a treatise from Samuel on why you should watch Harry Potter.

Winter Tournament

Our Winter tournament is happening in Week 4. The date for select students competing in the Winter Tournament is Tuesday the 8th of August.

We are still looking for coaches and managers to help. Please email C.loose@woodend.school.nz if you can help.

Rachael Rayment

We have a student teacher with us for Term 3. Rachael is in her final placement, and will be working with Mr Langlands' class primarily.

Matariki

Check out our school's slideshow of items we produced for Matariki in week 1.

Production

Our production practice is in full swing with each item being refined and practised. You may have received a hero message about your child's costume requirements.

Here is a reminder of information around the production tickets.

This exciting event for our year 3–8 students will take place on Tuesday 5th and Wednesday 6th September at 6.00pm at 'The Rangiora Town Hall'. Tickets are $15 per student and $20 per adult. Families that have children that are performing in the production will get priority for tickets. The show will be approximately 1. 5 hours long

Due to the capacity of the venue, each family will be allocated 6 tickets which they can use to attend on the night of their choice. Once these families have ordered we will then offer remaining tickets to the rest of our families and to those wanting to purchase additional tickets. Payment must be made before tickets are allocated.

Families who have students in the production must complete this form by Friday 4th August. For all other families this needs to be completed by Thursday 24th August.

Emails during the day

Te Ngahere is a busy environment, if you have urgent information to pass on to a teacher that requires a prompt response, it's best to phone the office as we can't guarantee that we can check and respond to emails while we teach.
