We are in the process of finalising the cost of camp with our increase in students, and selection of activities. We hope to send this out in the next week.
Cost of the camps:
Woodend School is part of the Ministry of Education School Donations Scheme. In the donations scheme, parents can be asked to contribute a donation for the cost of attending any overnight camps.
At Woodend, we ask for a donation to cover the cost of camps. The cost per students is expected to be around $150.
For any parents who cannot afford the camp at the time, if they wish to they can pay the donation off over time. This can be in weekly instalments, for example $5 per week. Parents who cannot afford the donation are encouraged to contact the office. The school receives a community grant each year to help us cover this cost.
At Woodend we always ensure every student can attend camp, if parents cannot pay or are unwilling to pay a donation.

We have had an overwhelming response with parents offering to come to camp. We are still waiting on all families to fill out forms, and will try to finalise by the end of the term. If there are any questions about this - please email m.crawford@woodend.school.nz
We begin swimming in Week 9 for 2 weeks. The cost for the free swims is $21.50 payable to the office online or in cash at the Te Ngahere Space.
Please check your Hero to book your school conference with your child's pakeke teacher on either Tuesday the 13th or Tuesday the 20th of June
Some Te Ngahere students have been learning how to play Korfball for the last few weeks. They have enjoyed learning the rules, and using their new knowledge in a game format. The students last session will be the Monday of week 8. A small group of students will be selected for the Korfball Tournament on Tuesday 27th June (week 10).
We are currently attacking Fractions in mathematics. Te Ngahere has begun identifying and comparing proper and improper fractions. Our tamariki have been encouraged to use materials and draw the fractions to help develop their understanding.
Number Knowledge Challenge
Te Ngahere have been playing games and taking on challenges to develop our number knowledge. Here is a challenge for you and your whanau to take on.
Reading
For many of our students, our Learning Objectives are around comprehension and retelling of what they are reading, and how best to identify the main idea of the text.
Te Ngahere teachers love their literacy and have shared what they are currently reading. Post a pic here of what your family are reading! We would love to put this Google photo album of what families, parents, children are currently reading on the school website.
