We have just concluded our scale measurement, perimeter, area, and compass unit that integrated so many different aspects of the curriculum. It was great to see our maths buddies at work, measuring, scaling and recreating floor plans. We loved getting out and taking a look around our school to get a bearing and make statements around north, west, east, and south.
We are now heading into our last maths unit for the term, Multiplication and division. We will be covering different strategies to understand what multiplication and division actually do, and their application to real life problems.
Timestable rockstar has been a fantastic way of practising our multiplication facts - Here are the current top ten students! They trail the elusive Zavier Price and Rojelio Volkman who have been quietly waging a battle of their own.
A big shout-out to Stepsweb for their excellent spelling and reading programme. Stepsweb aligns with our structured literacy approach and helps students learn and connect new spelling and sound patterns to help with decoding increasingly challenging words.
Students can log in at home with their password - Please email your teacher or check with your child if you need.
It has been fantastic to see many students bringing in their own books to read for pleasure. Our strongest readers have the habits of taking moments during the day to read their own books.
We understand that some students haven't yet found the right book to read for pleasure - Here are some fantastic gateway books and series with illustrations to accompany them.
Gateway
The Bad Guys Series
The 13-Story Treehouse Series
Diary of a wimpy Kid
Dogman
Here are the popular books among our stronger readers:
