What's on this week?

Cyber Safety Evening - Tuesday & Wednesday

For those that have signed up, the Cyber Safety evenings are on this week. The sessions are from 7-9pm at the Rāroa Intermediate School Hall.

If you have booked You should have received your tickets for this event, check which evening you have booked for - either Tuesday 7 or Wednesday 8 June - and we'll see you there!

If you meant to book and didn't get around to it, we still have a few spare places. Email Urs and let her know: urs.cunningham@amesbury.school.nz.

Amesbury's Got Talent 2022 - Sign ups close Wednesday

The Amesbury's Got Talent is on again and is open for all students in the school to enter with any talent they want to share:

  • Heats will be held in weeks 7 & 8 (13th-24th June)
  • Sign ups close this Wednesday (8 June)
  • The final will be on the afternoon of Friday 1 July

For more detail on this event please read Natalie's article.

Junior Invitational Cross Country @ Amesbury

Due to the inclement (I'm being polite) weather last week, the Junior Invitational Cross Country was postponed. Lucky for all, though, the sausage sizzle was not and Gail cooked up heaps of sausages which were consumed with gusto.

The plan was to postpone the event to this coming week, however, the weather is very unsettled at the moment and we have nowhere for 300 junior competitors to shelter if the weather turns poor. Consequently, we have moved our postponement date to some time in Term 3.

The schools involved will work together to set a date in Term 3, and we will let you know as soon as a date is confirmed.

The sausage sizzle will still go ahead at morning tea time for Amesbury students (pre-orders must be made via Kindo before end of Tuesday (7th June). Please ensure your child(ren) have lunch as usual.

Churton Park Community Events - Anyone Interested?

Covid-19 has prevented most community events from taking place over the past few years and there is a desire to run some activities and events within our suburb a little later in the year, which will help us to re-connect, get together and have fun with our wider community.

If you are interested, or have some ideas and suggestions, then please read Urs's article on the subject and put your thoughts forward.

Amesbury Student Achievements Outside of School

Once again we are looking to receiving details of your child’s achievements outside of school so that we can share them with the wider Amesbury whānau and celebrate them together.

We know that a number of students gain achievements outside of school in various activities like sport, music, and for clubs that they are members of, etc.

If your child/ren have something that they would like to share (along with some photos, if you like), please email the information to natalie@amesbury.school.nz.

Volunteers needed for Pack the Bus 2022

The Breeze is running their annual Pack the Bus drive this year, working in conjunction with Wellington City Mission to collect food and toys to support deserving families in the wider Wellington area this Christmas.

Amesbury School will happily be involved with this again this year, and we are looking for a small group of parents or whānau members who would like to take oversight of organising this. It is pretty straightforward and not a huge amount of work. It involves advertising the event to our community (school can help with this) and helping to organise donations. The collection date will be the week starting 28th November (the week prior to our camp/activities week at school).

If you are interested in helping to run this donation drive, please email Urs (urs@amesbury.school.nz). Thanks

ICAS Exams 2022 - Parent Meeting Thursday

Preparations for this year's ICAS exams are well underway and the next step is the parent meeting to be held at 4pm this Thursday (9 June) in the library.

We require parents who are interested in entering their child for any ICAS exams to attend a short meeting at school to discuss the content of exams and the role of the school in these exams. If you have attended this meeting in the past, you do not need to attend again. Even if parents are well informed about ICAS exams generally, it is still mandatory to attend this meeting before registering, as the meeting outlines Amesbury School's approach to ICAS exams. During this meeting, we will cover what the school will and will not do in terms of ICAS exams. If parents agree with these expectations, students can then be entered for the exams. If you have already attended this meeting in previous years, you do not need to attend this meeting as you are already aware of the school's expectations.

The critical dates are:

  • Thursday 9th June @ 4pm in the library - Parents' Meeting
  • Thursday 23rd June - last day for registrations
  • August - the ICAS exams

Scholastic's Book Club

Just a reminder too that the latest Scholastic's Book Club issue is now out. While there's still a little time until it closes next week - Friday 17 June - it's a good idea to start thinking about it now.

As usual, there is a wide range of interesting books to choose from and it is now easier to order and pay than ever before.

Kirat explains all of this in her Scholastic's Book Club article.

Clothing backup - for ALL STUDENTS

With winter here, so is the rain, puddles and mud.

Please pack a spare set of shorts/track pants/leggings, and underpants in your child's school bag (for all ages) with a plastic bag to put the wet clothes in, and let your child know that they are there for them to get changed into.

For some children it can be quite embarrassing or upsetting when they unexpectedly become wet or dirty (particularly if there isn't anything for them to change into) or they don't like what is available. We have limited space to hold a selection of spares so are not always able to cater for all 'requests' and sizes (particularly size 8 plus).

Uniform

  • Fleeces
Please check and refresh the names on fleeces so they can be easily read. Contact Rachel if you know who the fleece in the photo below belongs to.
  • Beanies
Second hand beanies available to buy at the office for $5

Contact information

Please email Rachel at office@amesbury.school.nz if you move address, change or disconnect contact numbers or would like to update the emergency contacts that you have listed for your child/ren.

Remember that only authorised people (those listed on a student's record, as primary and/or emergency contacts) are permitted to collect students from school in the event of an emergency evacuation/pickup.
