Board of Trustees Information

Brooklyn School Office - February 19, 2025

Our Board of Trustees comprises 5 elected parent representatives and 2 staff (the Principal and 1 elected staff member)

Presiding Members' Welcome

Kia ora and welcome to Brooklyn School,

I am proud to be the Presiding Member of the Brooklyn School Board of Trustees and particularly proud to be part of a school community that helps to develop excellent children into excellent teenagers (and hopefully excellent adults!).

At Brooklyn School we strive to foster a sense of belonging. We pride ourselves in that our children, whanau, teachers and community have a close relationship.

As a Board, it is our role to support the school leadership to ensure we have a strong and inclusive culture. We are responsible for the employment of all staff, including the Principal, and setting the overall strategic direction for the School.

We strive to offer the very best education for our students. At Brooklyn School the emphasis is on the development of each child’s strengths and talents. The Board invests in additional teacher aides to assist those children that need a helping hand and to extend those that are more capable.

The Brooklyn School rebuild has created flexible learning environments that are at the cutting edge of education and provide our tamariki the chance to embrace technology and adjust to learning spaces that foster collaboration.

Our incredibly high academic, cultural and sporting achievements attest to the quality of education at Brooklyn School.

As a Board we are grateful for the strong community and whānau support that is evident everyday in assisting us to develop excellent children.

Mike Brown
Presiding Member

BoT - Extra Information

The Board comprises five parent representatives, who are elected every three years by the parent community, the Principal, and a staff representative. It controls the governance of the school, although day to day administration is delegated, and sets the Principal long and short term objectives through the charter and the strategic and annual plans.

The Board monitors performance - including student achievement - against the objectives and national guidelines. It determines major policies, sets the budget and ensures that the school is financially sound and decides how property funding is to be used.

Board meetings are held in public, and open to any interested party to attend. The provisions of Part 7 of the Local Government Official Information and Meeting Act 1987 apply. The Board Presiding Member presides at the meeting and his/her decision on procedural matters is final.

Our Board meetings are held in the staffroom and take please on Thursday evenings, starting at 7pm. We have 2 Board meetings per term. Meeting dates for 2025 can be found below.
