Diabetes in school - education seminar 2023

    by Sandy Hastings

Hello Principals

We are Clinical Nurse Specialists for children across Canterbury with Diabetes (Both Type 1 and 2). My colleagues and I are planning a Diabetes Education Seminar for school teachers and school support staff on February 2nd 2023 from 4-5:30pm. We will also be running a follow up seminar on February 16th that will provide an opportunity for staff to come and ask any questions that have come up since the first session. We are also happy for staff to attend the second session if they were unable to attend the first. This seminar will be held at Manawa building. I have attached an invitation, a letter to the Principal and a map to help you in getting to Manawa building.

This seminar will cover basic diabetes education, blood glucose testing, treatment and management of hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar), insulin administration and technique and concerns that frequently come up with children in the school setting with Type 1 Diabetes. There will also be time for you to ask questions, as we know how vital this is so that you feel supported. All teachers and support staff are invited and welcomed, however it is especially important to attend if you are the teacher, teacher aide or school support staff member for a child with Type 1 Diabetes.

Please RSVP with the number of people attending from your school to paediatric.diabetescns@cdhb.health.nz by December 20th, 2022
