Room 2 News | Term 1, Week 8
Kia ora!
Welcome to Week 8! Time is flying by, and it’s been a wonderful few weeks of growth and learning. As we continue through this term, I’m so proud of the hard work and dedication our students are putting in. It’s been exciting to see their progress in both academic and personal development, and I’m thrilled to share some of the highlights from this week with you. We’ve had a busy, yet rewarding time, and I’m looking forward to the weeks ahead!
In math this week, we’ve been wrapping up our statistics learning. The students have been busy
conducting investigations to gather and analyze information, and it’s been fantastic to see their curiosity in action. We’ve also continued our daily practice of basic facts every morning, and Room 2 is really starting to excel in this area. Their progress is impressive, and it’s exciting to watch their confidence in math grow. We’ll continue to build on this foundation as we move forward!
In writing this week, Room 2 has dived into narratives, starting by analyzing the classic story of Little Red Riding Hood. We’ve been exploring the key elements of narrative writing, such as character development, plot structure, and setting. The students have enjoyed examining the story from different perspectives, and it’s been a great way to kick off their own creative writing journeys. I’m excited to see the imaginative narratives they’ll create as we continue developing these skills!
In our reading rotations this week, students have been focusing on learning how to pull key information out of texts. They’ve been practicing identifying main ideas, supporting details, and making inferences to better understand what they’re reading. It’s been wonderful to see their reading comprehension skills grow as they engage with different texts, and they are becoming more confident in discussing and analyzing what they’ve read. I’m looking forward to seeing how these skills continue to develop!
Students are absolutely loving Kapa Haka every second week! It’s been a fantastic opportunity for them to connect with Māori culture through song, dance, and performance. The energy is always high during our sessions, and it's been wonderful to see the students embrace this new experience with so much enthusiasm.
In P.E., Room 2 has been having a great time every second Friday working with coaches. These sessions have been a fantastic way for the students to improve their physical skills while also learning teamwork and sportsmanship. The coaches bring lots of energy and fun to each lesson, and it's been exciting to see the students develop new skills and enjoy being active. They’re looking forward to more fun and learning in the weeks ahead!
Kia pai tō rā whakatā - have a great weekend!
