Room 6 News | Term 1, Week 8

by Fiona McLachlan

As per usual, the students in Room 6 have been working hard and hopefully been having fun while they learn.  Our maths programme is going well and we have been focusing on implying our knowledge of add/sub strategies to complete multi-part problems. We will be extending this to incorporate our multi/div knowledge in the coming weeks while also looking at BEDMAS and GEMA before the end of the term!

During reading this week we have had a lot of fun watching The Lorax movie. We focused on reading the subtitles as we watched and completed tasks relating to them. These lessons focused on developing skills in reading comprehension, vocabulary, fluency and spelling. If possible, turn the subtitles on while your tamariki are watching TV at home! It is such a great tool in developing reading speed and comprehension. Over the next week we will re-watch the movie as well as read the story by Dr Seuss and explore its many deeper meanings.

Spelling, grammar and writing times have all been running smoothly seeing a lot of time focusing on language features, parts of speech and sentence types that help to elevate our writing. We have had a lot of success creating pencil sketched self portraits inspired by Tim Burton - please pop into the classroom and take a look at these when you get a moment.

Unfortunately, the weather has not been kind to us and we have not managed to go on our riparian planting site visit to Tallot’s farm.  However Dan and Siobhan have been back in class and helped us to create a planting map so we are one step closer to planting!

Please pop in any time for a chat or to check out the learning we have around our classroom.

Ngā mihi nui,
