Winter Sports- Wahoo!

As we transition into winter we all get excited about the notion of team sports, frosty mornings, trainings, hot milos, half time oranges, sideline supporters and playing games with our mates. With this in mind it is also vital that we as parents, supporters, coachers, parents and players are reminded that playing sport is a privilege. We need to ensure that we respect the games we play, the rules, our opponents, team members and ourselves. This means being respectful, listening, role modelling and playing with a code at the forefront of our thinking.

With this in mind we have shared our Hukanui Players, Spectators and Coaches Code of Conduct. It is something we strongly encourage all who attend sport to read and adhere to. This particularly applies to our supporters, who can at times forget who is actually reffing the game and fail to consider the impact of their words on others. Most of us will remember the old saying our Mums would throw at us as kids 'If it's not nice, don't say it!' This is a simple and effective reminder to all to stay positive and be aware that the game you are watching is not a 'World Cup Final.'

To the parents who coaches, referees and managers, thank you. You are the absolute heroes of the day and without you, we'd be lost. Thank you for the time, energy and care you demonstrate to our little players. Children don't remember what was bought for them when they were little but they will remember the time and good memories you provided.
