Engaging ākonga Māori in an online environment
Rachel Whalley - September 27, 2022
In examining the data and narrative she had collected in the course of her research, Carolyn reflected on the conscious need to shift her perspective from a pakeha lense to a te ao Māori lense and ensure she was capturing student voice.
As long as the right factors are in place such as an enabling and supported environment for learning then strategies to engage with ākonga would be successful.
I really encourage you to dig into the research, take the time to watch the recording and pick up Carolyn's presentation attached.
Some of our teachers feedback:
Thank you to Carolyn for sharing her worthwhile and practical research and to Kōtuitui NEX for arranging this. This will support our eTeachers to better support our Māori ākonga and inform our Online Pedagogical practice body of knowledge.
Carolyn's presentation really resonated with me. I had many "aha" moments as she put many of my subconscious understandings into words. I found this very affirming.
We look forward to engaging with Carolyn further and deepening our Mātauranga Māori understanding and teaching practice for the benefit of ākonga Māori and all learners.
