Teachers - want to learn te reo online?
Jenni Hammonds - March 18, 2025
Learning Te Reo Māori as a teacher in Aotearoa develops your bicultural understanding, supports your teacher registration, fosters stronger connections with Māori students, and provides the wide-reaching cognitive benefits of learning another language.
Te Waharoa ki Te Reo Māori ran as a pilot in 2023 with teachers showing interest for the initiative to continue.
'Waharoa' is a term used for a gateway or entrance, and Te Waharoa ki Te Reo Māori is a way for teachers to begin their journey and be a part of Aotearoa's unique national language revival.
NEX Kōtuitui has an opportunity to tailor the delivery of Te Waharoa. To ensure it is valuable for our community, we're seeking feedback from interested teachers on how you'd like to participate. The different elements being considered are:
Synchronous, asynchronous or a combination
Number of tasks & assessments
Regularity of feedback
Learning platform preference
Length of time
Are you keen to participate? Let us know your learning preferences here and help develop Te Waharoa.
