Year 9 Camp - Forest Lakes

    by Janine Laumua

Students have returned from camp today after three days of fun, adventure and team work.  I had the pleasure of visiting Ōtaki Forest Lakes Camp yesterday and spent the afternoon watching the water sports rotation as can be seen on the photos.

Camp takes young people away from their regular life, (and devices) and puts them in new and sometimes challenging situations.  The water may not be deep, but leaving their 'comfort zone' is an important, some would say, vital part of life.

You may hear them complain about the food or the cabins but what I witnessed was fun, adventure, laughing, inclusion, and a deeply caring staff who worked hard to give each young person a great experience.

Thank you to all the tuakana and staff who gave up their week and a special thanks to Mr Jeff Chapman and his camp crew.
