After being selected as a member of the North Island team from his results in the Manawatu Inter-Secondary Schools Championships in March, Shay headed to Taranaki for the National Championship on Saturday 8 April.
He was entered into the following events competing in the Intermediate Boys division for the team:
- 100m - 11:87s
-200m - 24.13s
-4 x 100m Relay. - 45.82s. Shay and three boys from Palmerston North Boys High School were in the team.
-Long Jump - Second place with a jump of 6.34m. This is a Personal Best jump for Shay who jumped 5.9m at the Manawatu Inter- Secondary Championship. Shay's distance in comparison to the South Island Secondary Schools competition has recorded the second longest distance nationally in the Intermediate Boys Long Jump.
Shay competed outstandingly in all events and represented the College superbly. Congratulations, Shay.
