We have been doing a lot of learning about science and scientific principles, here are some of the science experiments we have been doing!

Crystals: By combining two elements (Borax and hot water) we were able to grow crystals on pipe cleaners!

Slime: We were learning about the state of matter (solid, liquid, gas) and made Oobleck slime to demonstrate that when molecules are condensed they are solid, but when they spread out they can become a liquid. Ookleck is hard when squished, but oozy when it's let go.

Dancing Raisins: To learn about how a gas interacts with a liquid and learn about surface area we used lemonade and raisins to create dancing raisins.

Liquid Density: Everything is made of molecules, these molecules determine the density of an object depending on how many there are and how close together they are. Liquids of different densities seperate into layers when in a jar together.

Suncatchers: By adding heat to some solids it will change state, a plastic like in a pony bead will melt from a solid into a liquid (like ice into water). The plastic goes from hard plastic to a liquid plastic. When we put the beads in a muffin tray and put them in the oven then let them cool back into a solid we had made suncatchers, which look great in our window.

Exploding Lemons: By combining the acid of a lemon with other chemicals (backing soda) we can cause a chemical reaction. They foamed and erupted!

Elephant Toothpaste: Just like the Exploding Lemons, these two chemicals caused a chemical reaction and erupted into foam!

Coloured Flowers: By putting white flowers into coloured water, the flowers absorbed the colour as they absorbed the water and changed colour.

Moving Milk: Dish wash liquid repels milk, we demonstrated this by adding food colouring into milk then putting a cue tip with dish wash liquid on it. This made the milk and the colours move away from the cue tip.
