Paul Morehu

These are just some of the things that we have been doing this week.

Welcome back Mr Horn

It's a big WELCOME BACK to Mr Horn! You have been missed and it is great to have you back.  The children really appreciated the treats you brought back from Canada for them.

Writing

This week classes have been doing a variety of things for writing. Some children have been trying to make their writing more interesting using describing words. Mr Morehu's class used the wordless picture book called 'Chalk' for inspiration. Feel free to watch this story below.

'I could hear the black sky thundering' -Sam

'What should I draw I wondered?' - Greer

'Then Judd drew the butterflies and they shot from the ground' - Ethan

'I drew butterflies and they fluttered away' - Connor M

'Suddenly a dinosaur rose from the concrete and the dinosaur was scary' - Briti

Reading

Reading groups will be changing next week so your child may be changing rooms for reading.

Maths

Talk to your child about what they have been learning this week for maths. Some children have been learning to solve addition problems by counting on in ones, and solving subtraction problems by counting back in ones.

Well done to Ruby,  Chelsea and Enzo for winning their Maths Whizz certificates this week. Keep up the good work children and maybe it will be YOU winning a certificate next week.

Matariki

Children are continuing to work on Matariki activities this week. This week there has been a school wide colouring competition and there is a competition running for which hub has the best Matariki display which was judged with the winner to be announced next week.

Mr Morehu has some kites he plans to take outside to use with our hub as part of Matariki celebrations but the weather doesn't feel like cooperating at the moment.

Inquiry

We are continuing to learn about sustainability this term. Children should be starting to think about how they might take action to help turn the mood of the Earth from sad to happy.

CARE Certificates and Other Awards

Well done to all the children that received a CARE Certificate or a book mark for tremendous reading or another type of award.
