KORERO FROM MIRANDA
Kia ora Rototuna whānau,
The teachers at the Senior High have enjoyed connecting with you at whānau conferences to discuss your young person's learning goals for the year. Over these first couple of weeks we have focused on getting to know our students, identifying their interests and providing learning experiences that expand connections between subject learning areas and the community. In the upcoming weeks we will be working with students to make NCEA decisions and to ensure that these assessment plans give each person the opportunity to realise their academic goals.
As we move into learning routines, the importance of the shared expectations have been shared across our school that will support learning success. The key messages are summarised below.
We expect...
to be in the right place, at the right time,
to be ready to learn,
to make good choices,
and to look after our spaces
... so that we can support each other to learn.
Satellite Campus Update:
Our work alongside the Ministry of Education and the University of Waikato is continuing to progress. These efforts are motivated by our desire to extend our current learning programmes in ways that support our students NCEA success.
The Ministry has given their support to this initiative (in principle) so we are moving into a more detailed planning phase. As you will all appreciate, there is a huge amount of work to do to ensure good systems and programmes are in place for the campus to operate effectively.
At the moment we looking at the following areas:
Buses to and from the campus
Timing so that students have the same time for learning at both campuses
Procedures for attendance, pastoral care and health and safety
Internet access
Staffing and timetabling options
As we begin this planning phase I would like to invite you to share your thinking about the kind of learning experiences that would benefit your student.
As I have mentioned we want to consider ways that will deepen and accelerate our senior students learning success. To complete the survey you can click on the link below.
I look forward to our continued work together.
Ngā mihi, best wishes and stay safe
Miranda
