From the Principal - 29 February 2024

Happy 29th February.

This week we held our Year 5-8 Information Evening. Thank you to everyone who was able to attend.

Many parents were interested in how to make the Internet a safer place for their children at home. We strongly encourage all parents to have filtering on your home Internet.  A pretty simple and very effective way is to use Switch on Safety, which when activated, has the Internet filtered. It takes 10 minutes to implement.

Our staff are well into our major professional development focus for the year. We are taking a deep dive into the teaching of writing. Our learners achieve incredibly highly, with 93% of our learners in 2023 being at or above their expected level in writing. While we are very happy with this, we want to further enhance all our students' writing abilities. Our key goals are:

• Develop our skills and knowledge to improve student engagement, learning and achievement in writing.
• Develop teacher knowledge in three separate but related areas. We need to know:
  • our students
  • how to teach writing
  • something about writing itself
• Evidence of improved understanding of the transfer of literacy principles into teaching practice.
