Reading Cafe all set for Year 3/4 team

Our Reading Cafes have been a hit in Term One as our junior classes invite their parents to come along for a coffee and enjoy some reading alongside their children. 

It works like this: 

• Parents drop children off in their classroom as usual, any time from 8.30, and then come along to the library for a tea or coffee.
• After the roll, from around 8.50, the teacher brings the children to the library. Parents can then read to, with or alongside their children and this can be a great time to invite other caregivers if the timing does not suit.
• Children can show their parents the books they like to read or you can choose together, or indeed bring a favourite from home.
• By 9.15 the reading time is over, the children go back to class and parents resume their normal Friday life!

Parents as reading role models, showing value in reading and engaging with their child with the books they can enjoy together is incredibly valuable and we sincerely appreciate the effort it requires to be available for this annual opportunity.
