The Seatoun School Swimming Sports is coming up next term in week 3 - Tuesday 1st August

Over the last few days, your child/children have had a chance to enter themselves into the upcoming swimming races of their choice. There are both competitive, and non-competitive events. (Year 3 children will only participate in the non-competitive events also known as
Splash ‘n’ Dash!)

Year 4 or new swimmers: If your child has entered competitive events we really encourage you to take them to Kilbirnie pool to practise going across the pool - especially if this is their first year doing this event. They need to be able to confidently swim without stopping and they will not be able to touch the ground. We will have older swimmers to shadow the year 4’s as a backup but do NOT want anyone to have a negative experience.

Important Information:

When: Tuesday 1st August
Time: 9.00am - 12.30pm
Where: Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre (Kilbirnie Pool).
Who: Year 3 - 8

Buses will take the students to the pool and back. (1st buses leave at 8.45am)

Remember to bring:

  • Togs
  • Towel
  • Goggles
  • Spare towel/extra hoodie to keep warm in between races
  • Healthy lunch
  • Drink bottle
  • Swimming cap (if you have one)
  • NO money - as children will not be permitted to go to the cafe.
  • NO technology

Time-keepers required:

We will really require adult/parent helpers for the day. Can you please email:  sports@seatoun.school.nz if you are able to help with this.

All parents/caregivers are welcome to come encourage and support this School event. There is seating in the stands available which makes for easy viewing of the races.

The event programme is as follows, commencing from 9:30am with a briefing and runs from there as efficiently as possible. Below are the order of events only, as it is difficult to give a specific time.

  • 50m Freestyle
  • 25m Freestyle
  • 25m Backstroke
  • 25m Breaststroke
  • 25m Butterfly
  • House relay if time allows

Eastern Zone Swimming Sports:

The top 2 children per gender/year group from each event will qualify for Eastern Zone Swimming Sports. The top 4 children per gender/year group in the 25m freestyle will make up the relay team. This event will take place at Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre (Kilbirnie Pool) on Wednesday 23 August.
