Tēnā koutou

This weekend I enjoyed walking around Luma, seeing and feeling the sense of magic and mystery made from hundreds of cleverly arranged lights set in a backdrop of darkness. My favourite thing to see were the hanging displays that a group of our SPS children had contributed to. It was a great experience for the children as they learnt a range of skills from drilling with power tools, the mathematics involved in making a pattern and the satisfaction of committing to something and seeing it through.

Last Friday a group of our students accompanied by Miss Aimee and some parent helpers headed to Dunedin to attend the National Young Leaders Conference. It was a great opportunity for our children to hear New Zealand leaders give motivational talks aimed at inspiring the leadership within them.

We had a busy and productive staff only day on Friday as staff used the time to work together to further develop systems to support powerful learning. The day ended with us coming together to share what we had achieved.

I would like to acknowledge our community's support with the Teacher Strike last Wednesday and the Staff only day on Friday. Thank you.
