Room 1 Welcome Alfie 🐶

We have been working on measurement activities. As a class we created an environment to suit all learning styles, which includes hands on experiences. This is what we came up with: Everyone can learn math to the highest levels.Mistakes are valuable. Questions are really important. Math is about creativity and making sense. Math is about connections and communicating. Math class is about learning not performing. Depth is more important than speed.

Weekly in Room 1 we integrate Te Reo into our everyday language through a variety of activities.

Scattegories, Upwords, The Game Of Awesome, 5 Second Rule, Articulate, Charades, Story Cubes, Scrabble & Trivial Pursuit just to name a few……..

Creating groovy tunes by piecing together different instruments and individual talent. Room 1 absolutely nailed it!

The One and Only Ivan. A fantastic story about a Gorilla whom was captured and torn away from his family. Ivan ended up in a circus, where he slept by day and finger painted by night.

Room 1 have proved to be sporty and successful! Qualifying through to the finals of LAP which is yet to take place. Who will take out first place.......??!

As part of our PE programme we were lucky to have a First Aid session based around injuries at camp from St John. We learnt about the most common injuries that can occur when you are out at camp and how we can respond. We practiced using bandages and putting people into the recovery position safely. Although these skills are really important to know, we hope we don't have to put them into action at camp 🤞

The famous Tahuna block run, beep test, class fitness, cooperative games, team building, team sport, ball skills and playground games are just a taste really of how we increase our fitness levels and physical capability. It's fair to say our PE uniforms prove HANDY! Congratulations to the students in the top photo for achieving their fitness badges 👏 🥇🥈🥉

The Treaty of Waitangi has gone missing! When the government was trying to move the treaty and along the way it was intercepted by a gang of thieves. They are holding it hostage. We’ve found the container it’s in but we need to figure out the combinations to all the locks to get it out. Can you help us?

Mr Walkinshaw will be joining us for the first half of the year. He is a Masters College Teacher and we are super excited to be sharing our space with him.

In Room 1 we practice sharing writing in the classroom as it provides students with a built-in meaningful audience and tells them we value their work!! This students love this as they get automatic feedback from teacher and classmates.

As a subject Maths can cause some students to worry, but we're working hard to make maths fun, engaging, creative and hands on for everyone.
