About Our School
Tai Tapu School is one of the oldest primary schools in Waitaha Canterbury, with a proud history dating back to 1876. For over 150 years, we have been at the heart of the Tai Tapu community, shaping generations of learners. While our school is steeped in tradition, our modern, collaborative learning hubs are designed to foster creativity, innovation, and engagement in today’s ever-evolving world.
We embrace the best of both worlds—honoring our rich semi-rural heritage while providing our tamariki with the opportunities and advantages of contemporary education. As a school, we are deeply committed to our bicultural foundations and uphold the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
Our tamariki are passionate, empowered learners who recognise their strengths and the impact of their actions. They are supported by our inspirational, innovative, and diverse kaiako, who are dedicated to sparking curiosity, fostering resilience, and nurturing a love of learning in every ākonga.
Our Vision:
Making a difference—to self, others, and the environment.
Our Values:
Guided by our vision, our values shape everything we do:
Manaaki – Respect for all
Māia – Courage in all that we do
Tipu – Growth, always striving for personal best
Hononga – Connection to our whānau, whakapapa, cultural heritage, and the land
At Tai Tapu School, we are more than just a place of learning—we are a community where every individual is valued, every voice is heard, and every learner is empowered to thrive.
