Last week was Te Wiki o te Reo Māori (Māori language week) where we celebrated Te Reo Māori. However, in reality this is what we do each and every day at Te Ao Mārama
Right from our establishment as a new school we have made a determined effort to embrace and celebrate Te Reo Māori. We are one of a very small number of mainstream schools that receive Māori language funding for each and every child. This funding is used to further bolster our programmes and resources.
In some exciting news, I am proud to share that we are looking to establish a bilingual Te Reo Māori / English class for 2025. Please see further information later in this newsletter.
Ko te reo Māori ma tātou o te motu.
Ahakoa iti, ākona, kōrerotia te reo Maori ia rā, ia rā.
Me whakanui me ako me whakamahia to tātou reo.
Kia kaha te kōrero i te reo Māori.
Māori language is a part of who we are as a nation.
Learn a little, use a little, today and every day.
Let’s celebrate, learn and use our language.
This term we surveyed our staff here at Te Ao Mārama, and I am delighted to share the results of our Staff Culture survey with our parent community.
Why share this? Our team at Te Ao Mārama works hard to provide a safe, warm, and nurturing environment for your children, and we are fortunate to have such passionate, hardworking and fun people!
I think it is nice for you to see that they genuinely love working here. If we work together to support them, then they in turn will be able to support your children even more.
This survey was completed by all 56 staff, including some that had only recently been appointed. The Board of Trustees strives to be an “employer of choice”, and the measurement of Staff Culture is a vital part of ensuring the continued success of the school.
I feel truly privileged to be working with such a hardworking, passionate and fun team!
Please see the Term IV overview of events, including opportunities for our whānau to be involved in our school.
Ngā mihi maioha
Thank you with appreciation
