New Play Areas

We are delighted to share that our new Board funded playspace/landscaping project will be starting this week!

This is a large project, and includes the Pūkeko and Kererū outdoor spaces, Hare Puke Park entrance, and also some changes to the existing internal courtyard play areas. The development of play areas and outdoor learning is a key strategic goal for our Board (and was also mentioned by many parents in our Board survey/consultation).

This project will mean that our students will soon have even more opportunities for fun, physical activity, and imaginative play during their breaks, as well as an extension to their classroom learning. Our play spaces will be some of the best in the country!

I want to express my gratitude to the members of our Board for recognising and investing in the importance of play, and for fully funding this project. We'll make sure to keep you all updated on the progress and expected completion date, but if all goes to plan, this project should be completed by early to mid-Term 3.

Play areas – Kererū CourtyardThis area has been carefully designed to incorporate our cultural narrative/relationship with Ngāti Wairere. It includes a new waharoa (entranceway) at the Hare Puke reserve gate, which incorporates the story behind our name, matariki, and connection with Ngāti Wairere (local iwi).

The play spaces incorporate references to our river (awa), mountain (maunga), Tainui waka and Hukanui marae. There will also be a new enviro area with raised vege gardens.
