“Who runs the world, Girls!” TGC celebrated female empowerment with a splash of colour on International Women's Day, observed globally on 8 March 2024, which serves as a powerful reminder of the strides made towards gender equality and the ongoing struggle for women's rights. It is a special day set aside to applaud the accomplishments of women from all walks of life, pushing for a balanced scale of gender parity and nurturing a world where discrimination is a forgotten word and every woman and girl can soar to their highest potential.

As we settle into 2024, there are a few important reminders that support our expectations.

TGC Swimming Sports house competition brought fierce competition with incredible participation from all houses and close races all around.

This service is primarily delivered by School Health Nurses who are qualified, registered nurses with broad experience in delivering youth health services and are supported by medical practitioners with additional support is available as required.

On Wednesday the 28 February, our TGC Prefects had a highly chaotic and competitive game of dodgeball against the Tauranga Boys' College Prefects.

On Thursday 29 February, our Level 2 Geography students embarked on a journey up the Kaimai-Mamaku ranges.

Phones are not a learning device

Congratulations to our athletes who competed at the BOP Athletics Championships.

On Monday 11 March, Hamilton Girls’ High School travelled to us to compete in our annual summer exchange.

The Tauranga Girls' College Rowing squad had a very successful weekend competing in the Aon North Island Secondary School Championships at Karapiro from the 1st-3rd March. This was the first regatta competing in our school colours. It was great to see our squad persistently keeping up with the competition and securing impressive placings throughout the finals at the end of the regatta.

We had 14 students compete in the Bay Of Plenty Senior Tennis Championships on Wednesday 28 February. Our students had various games throughout the day and they played exceptionally well despite the hot weather that day.

At the beginning of March, we farewelled Miss Whitaker who is off to travel to London and explore future job opportunities. We are delighted to have Mr Lobb join the library team. Mrs Lobb also happens to be a published author. Her book ‘Hannah & Huia’ can be found in our school library.
