Another year has drawn to a close and was celebrated at the annual Timaru Boys’ High School Prizegiving, held this year on Thursday 1 November.

Quiet pride. Lots of it was seen at our three achievement ceremonies held since late September. Crossing the stage in the Arts Awards, Winter Sports Awards, and Senior Prizegiving, boys carried themselves with pride and showed respect for each ceremony and the school. Those who didn’t receive an award, but committed to self - improvement all the same, are rightly proud of how far they’ve come in 2018 too. We look forward to Junior Prizegiving later this term when we honour our last group that have stepped up to know more, do more, and be more at TBHS in 2018.

The Thomas House Redevelopment continues to progress on track, with the aim of having the new building completed by the end of November 2018.

The Thomas House Annual Christmas Dinner/Graduation was held in the dining room at Thomas House on 24 October.

Congratulations to Ben Hargreaves who was recognised as one of three finalists in the Timaru region at the Trustpower Youth Community Spirit Awards held in Ashburton.

Michael Howard is the Staff Representative on the Board of Trustees.

Sister Cities Timaru invites applications (on the attached form) from Secondary School Students to represent the Timaru District on an escorted Educational and Cultural Exchange to Eniwa, Hokkaido, Japan.

Sunday 14 October saw a team of eager young men meet in front of the school and start the big trek north, loaded with eight mini bikes.

As TBHS teachers will be attending a Paid Union Meeting on Wednesday 21 November, the school day will finish for all students at 12:45pm.

Wednesday 17 October saw another highly anticipated celebration of our school sportsmen and their achievements during 2018.

Riley Taylor was the star of the night for TBHS at the Aoraki Secondary Schools Sports Awards, walking away with one of the top awards of the evening - the 2018 Aoraki Male Sportsperson of the Year - for his swimming achievements.

Congratulations to the Timaru Boys’ Rugby 7s team that has once again shown its strength in sevens rugby to qualify for the Condor National Secondary Schools finals to be held in Auckland 29 November – 2 December with over 100 teams competing from all over the country.

Timaru Boys’ High School won the Year 9 and 10 Aoraki Secondary Schools’ Caroline Bay Relay in cold conditions on Thursday 8 November 2018.

The Judd Rugby Exchange was initiated in 2017 for the purpose of allowing students from both Judd and Timaru Boys’ High Schools to experience the educational, cultural and sporting (rugby) characteristics of each other’s schools.

The final four days of the holidays were spent on Dunedin’s Signal Hill with ten mountain bikers carving up some muddy berms, ‘sending it’ over some massive jumps and racing in sleet, hail and wind.

The first four days of the holidays saw the National School Road Biking Championships held on Christchurch’s country roads.

While the rest of the swim squad swam in Auckland, Riley Taylor attended a three day New Zealand Training Camp in Auckland, before competing in the Australian State Swimming Championship.

During the first week of the recent holidays, our swim squad was busy in Auckland for the 5 day National Short Course Swimming Championship.

This event took place from 13-16 September in Wellington with the swim squad members consisting of Reed Stevenson, Matthew Moore, Dominic Coleman and Will Tudgey.

This spring, PGG Wrightson and Ballance Agri-Nutrients will again run Cash for Communities.
