Timaru Boys' High School commenced the 2020 year with a resounding optimism, outworked through our Powhiri that welcomed all new staff and students into our special community.

TBHS Athletics Day will be held on Tuesday 18 February.

Thomas Kyle and Matthew Moore were crowned Junior and Senior Champion respectively at the annual TBHS swimming sports held in ideal conditions at the school pool on Thursday 13 February.

Timaru Rowing Club rowers shone on the water at the Canterbury Championships held over the weekend on Lake Ruataniwha.

On Thursday 20 February, there is an opportunity for you to find out about NCEA (National Certificate of Educational Achievement).

Thomas House opened its doors to our new Year 9 students on Tuesday 28 February by hosting a barbecue for students, parents and staff.

Timaru Boys' continues to be fortunate in having input from our Old Boys who are willing to share their skills and expierience with both staff and students.

Timaru Boys’ High School had seven swimmers involved in this event: Dominic Coleman, Will Tudgey, Benson Arnold, Thomas Kyle, Joshua Young, Alex Tudgey and Jack Boorer-Lilley.

TBHS teams finished 2nd & 3rd in the Aoraki Tennis Championships held on Thursday 13 February behind winners Ashburton College.

Congratulations to Old Boy Sam Ritchie who has been selected for the Team Skoda Fruzio team, a New Zealand domestic based cycling team focused on achieving results at a national level and providing a development pathway for leading U23 and junior riders.

Bus students have all been given Bus Registration forms that are to be returned to the school asap.

The teaching staff were able to take part in a Sustainability Workshop organised by Old Boy James Bishop (class of 1985) on the Friday before school started.

Thomas House celebrated the first night back in the House with a formal dinner for all residents and staff.

As TBHS teachers will be attending a Paid Union Meeting on Friday 28 February, the school day will finish for all students at 12:45pm.

Parents and Students are encouraged to download the TBHS School App. This provides another means of communicating with our school community.

Timaru North Rotary Club is again holding its Alpine Energy Hadlow to Harbour Fun Run on Sunday 1 March.

The Academic Assembly for the year was held earlier this term. The school recognised academic success from 2019 in NCEA and Scholarship.

All students are able to download Office 365 for free on up to five devices.

A reminder that senior students, Year 12 and 13 (Year 11 may bring a moped or similar), must have completed a vehicle permission form before they bring a vehicle to school.

Aorangi Golf will be holding a Junior Golf Tournament at Geraldine District Golf Club during the April School Holidays.

In fine weather, the traditional summer exchange was played in Dunedin on 9-10 February.

It promises to be another upcoming great year of rugby, with about 250 players registered. This makes us the largest local club by far.

Year 10 student Andrew Blake recently returned from America where he represented New Zealand in New York, Atlanta and Los Angeles as part of the inaugural Kiwi All Stars theatrical troupe 2020.

Grease is the word and Timaru Boys’ High School will be where it’s at when transformed into 1950s Rydell High.
