DISTRICT PRIMARY SCHOOLS' CROSS COUNTRY

A team of ten Year 7 and 8 athletes competed today in the District Primary Schools' Cross Country event held at Knottingley Park.

The track, which was in great condition with the dry weather, was set up earlier in the morning by the awesome volunteers from the local Harriers club. The warm conditions (almost too hot for running) made it very pleasant for all the spectators as they cheered on the efforts of all the runners.

Our Year 8's ran first with Santi Zimmermann winning the boys race and Emily Herren taking out the girls.

The Year 7 girls race saw Keira Mehrtens lead the whole way to win the girls race, followed by Kate Gillespie in 2nd with Elsie Cooney Hedditch in 4th.

The Year 7 boys race was hotly contested, with Angus Hart, Kadin Davis and Fergus Lane all vying for the top spot. Fergus eventually pulled away to take the win with Kadin a close 2nd and Angus 3rd, followed by a great run from Sam Matheson and Noah Brun to finish 4th and 5th respectively.

Congratulations to all of the runners and a huge thank you to the organisers and volunteers for a very smooth, successful event.
