Principal's Word

From the Principal - Week 2 Term 2
Jack, George and Jakeb taking their role of cross country time recorders very seriously  by Jo Hunnikin

Kia ora everybody,

I can honestly say there are no 2 weeks the same at Waimate High School! This week I sat in with our Year 10 classes who had a visit from Venture Timaru who were talking about career options. Our students were really engaged and learned alot from the visitors.

Today it's been our Cross Country and Colour Run. It was great to see so many students participating in the competitive cross country event.  At the time of writing this, I'm getting prepared to take part in the colour run this afternoon!

I spoke at level assemblies this week to talk to our students about respect. Not because it is a school value, but because it is a quality that will take them much further than any qualifications. Next week we have bully awareness week and it is a timely reminder for our students to not only demonstrate respect for themselves but show respect for each other and the adults in their lives.

On a final note, I encourage you to read our daily notices to get an idea of the number of opportunities available for our students. There is a link at the top of this newsletter.

COVID update.

This week we have seen very few new cases. I hope this continues.

Total positive cases: 103 students and 9 staff members

Current cases: 3 students

Isolating household contacts: 3 students

Recovered students back at school: 100

Average attendance for this week: 90%

Please remember that the school will be closed next Friday 20 May for an NCEA teacher only day.

Have a lovely weekend,

Jo
