Showquest Toi

Jane Merryfisher - June 2, 2021

Towards the end of Term 1 we decided that we wanted to enter Showquest Toi 2021.

Toi is a wearable art competition that students can enter. We collaborated on the design of a garment that were the theme of pollution so we collected rubbish and other recycled materials from around the school.

One of the costumes was based on a polluted city and the other a polluted ocean we named them pollution and reality. It took us about 6 weeks to create both garments from largely re-purposed rubbish. We were super lucky that our teachers let us have time out of class to work on these.

On the night of the performance that was held at the Theatre Royal Nelson we had to very quickly get ready for a photo shoot which was quickly followed by a dress rehearsal. Samara Bright was our organiser extraordinaire, Paige Clarke and Lucie Davis did hair and make up for Lily Kempthorne and Bailey Fourie who were the models. We really enjoyed performing to an audience, on a stage, with lights and music.
