Pruning the Wairakei School Plum Trees

A group of students were taught the skills of pruning our school fruit trees on Thursday.
by Catherine Parkes

On Thursday a group of students were fortunate enough to be taught how to prune our school plum trees.

Wairakei School are part of the 'ORCHARD'S IN SCHOOLS' programme. As part of this Mary is able to come in and lead us in the pruning of the fruit trees. The students learnt how to use the pruning tools, (loppers and secateurs) correctly and how to prune our plum trees.

It was a fun and informative morning. The students are looking forward to seeing how many plums will grow next year.

Lemonade Scones! Yummo!

The batches of lemonade scones that some young chefs made on Thursday were a hit!
by Catherine Parkes

On Thursday two different groups of students made some yummy scones. They were surprised how soft and fluffy the scones were, and that lemonade was one of the ingredients. They ate them straight from the oven with lots of butter and strawberry jam! Yummo!

Check out the recipe.
