Maths and Olympic Art During the Winter Tournament while the sports people were away competing, the rest of Te Ngahere worked on some Maths and Olympic Art. They had to use straight lines to create a range of shapes and complementary colours to make their print out of the Eiffel Tower stand out! The children worked really hard to complete these in a short time frame and we think they look fantastic up on the window in Te Ngahere Hub. During Thursday afternoons Hub two have been learning about the Olympics. We have learned some history of the Olympics and of course watched some of the athletes performing this year. As part of the unit, we researched in small groups about Paris and a country of our choosing to find some information about to record on our sheets. |
Woodend School Shines in Times Table Rock Star Competition
Woodend School proudly participated in this year’s New Zealand Times Table Rock Star competition, placing an impressive 17th out of over 150 schools nationwide. Students were challenged to rapidly answer multiplication and division questions, with the overall score determined by the average number of correct answers per student.
The competition sparked a school-wide frenzy as students enthusiastically practised their times tables and division facts in class, at home, and even during morning tea and lunch. Their dedication and incredible energy helped Woodend School to the top of the North Canterbury School Cluster.
A big thank you to Mr Langlands for motivating our students schoolwide during this competition!

Our Science Unit - Our Rivers, Our Drinking Water,
Guest speakers, Alicia and Emma from BECA came and talked to Te Ngahere about water before we started our new unit - ‘Our Rivers, Our Drinking Water'. The students were very engaged in this discussion and had some interesting questions about water for Alicia and Emma.
