From the Principal this week.....
Kia ora koutou
It has been a fantastic start to Term 4 with a range of activities already undertaken. Our Year 8 students enjoyed their camp at Kaiteriteri while the Year 7 students participated in a range of leadership and service activities. My thanks to the staff who arranged these experiences.
I wish to acknowledge our Year 13 cohort who are about to finish their time at Amuri Area School. Some have been here all 13 years with others joining along the way. I wish each and every one of them all the very best for the future in whatever it is that they are going to pursue. I also thank them for the various ways that they have contributed to the positive atmosphere and experiences of Amuri Area School.
Many of you will be casting your minds already to next year. I will publish a more detailed calendar in a few weeks’ time, but the following will give you an idea of how the year will start in Term 1:
Wednesday 22nd January – Office will open for uniforms, administrative purposes.
Thursday 30th January – Teacher Only Day
Friday 31st January - Teacher Only Day along with training for our student leaders
Monday 3rd February – First Day for Years 1-8 in Homerooms
Tuesday 4th February – First day for Year 9-13 Students
Thursday 6th February – Waitangi Day
Friday 7th February – MOE Curriculum Day for Year 1- 8 teachers – therefore no school for Year 1-8 students (please note that at this stage school will be open for Year 9-13 students and staff; however, this may change and I will confirm this as soon as possible).
Please also note that this day has been selected so that staff in Years 1-8 can participate in Professional Learning and Development with an External Provider about the refreshed maths curriculum.
Monday 17th March – Teacher only Day
Friday 11th April – Last day of Term 1.
I hope that you all have an enjoyable long weekend. It looks like it might be wet which will be a blessing in disguise for many of us in the community who are continuing to experience dry conditions.
