Room 6 News | Term 3, Week 3

Kia ora Room 6 whanau,

Week 3 - where did they go?
Over the last few weeks we have enjoyed reconnecting with the children and school community again.

The focus for the previous weeks, and moving forward, are "engagement and participation" and we have certainly seen this in practice.

In Maths we have completed our "Revision" unit with the children thwarting me (The Return of Demon Headmaster) by solving the Maths puzzles.

We are now going to move into a "Fun with Fractions" unit - which entails more structure and new learnings.

The children have been working hard on their Olympic Task Matrix. Each week we set a minimum standard of what is expected and this is checked regularly.

It is very pleasing to see the children embrace these activities, which ties into our own Olympic Games.

If this doesn't make much sense, please ask your child(ren) - they will be able to explain everything to you.

In Reading our tamariki are working on an interesting unit of work Miriam has designed and planned, based on the "Horrible Histories" series by Terry Deary.  Room 6 students have chosen to study either 'Awful Egyptians' or 'Rotten Romans'. Our focus is on writing responses to literature, book standards - proofreading and editing, comprehension - both inferential and event based, and retrieval of information.

With winter illness still prevalent in our senior classroom, we are making steady progress,

Thank you to whanau, who are also supporting your children at home with their work. Working together as a team definitely makes a difference to your children's learning.

Have a great weekend ~ Robert & AnnMarie
