Room 6 News | Term 3, Week 7

by Fiona McLachlan

Kia ora Room 6 Whanau,

Firstly a huge congratulations to all the children for the mahi they did with their speeches - we had drama, laughs and tears (and that was just from me!)

On Tuesday the children presented their speeches to the class and there was a huge range of topics spoken about.

The children stood confidently in front of their peers and delivered them without the reliance on cue cards - well done.

I have selected a number of children to go forward to the speech competition next Tuesday. Information regarding this should have been communicated to the appropriate families.

We finished our "Fun with Fractions" unit with an assessment. I am happy to report that over half the children scored above their year level, three quarters of the class scored at their year level, with the remaining half scoring just below their year level. Great result!

We have now moved onto "Awesome Algebra" for the rest of the term.

Reading: The students are busy working on their novel studies. The focus is on drafting accurate and concise information, editing, and thoroughly proof reading their own work; buddy checking also. This can be very challenging, with workshops and individual support available every day. Working on the presentation and layout skills for final copies can be challenging. Quality not quantity is the order of the day! We are reinforcing Mrs Bell's 'non negotiables'. Ask your child/children what these are!

Room 6 students are striving to be their best.
