This year our Harmony Week Celebrations consisted of engaging activities throughout the week as well as a host of fun and meaningful events on Thursday 21 March.

I am pleased to share with you, a letter I received from The Secretary of Education, Mr Murat Dizdar, which acknowledges our 2023 HSC results and the hard work and commitment of staff.

It’s hard to believe that we have already reached the end of Term 1! At a place as busy and vibrant as Dulwich High School of Visual Arts and Design, it always seems as though time moves at a much faster pace and it all blurs by in the blink of an eye. That being said, as we arrive at the end of the term it is always so nice to look back and reflect on a number of highlights that have occurred already this year.

We are delighted to share the wonderful success of our International Women's Day celebrations this year.

Year 9 Visual Design have been studying colour as part of their Design Fundamentals unit this term.

We are coming to the end of the term and it only seems a few days ago that we began the school year.

On 1 March, our Year 11 Visual Arts students embarked on an enriching excursion to Cockatoo Island and the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) for the Tacita Dean exhibition. Accompanied by Mr. Wootten, Mr. Schroeder, and Ms. Bean, it was a day filled with artistic inspiration and exploration.

The doors of our multipurpose hall swung open for one day in February, welcoming representatives from various organisations to our school’s first ever in-house Careers Expo!

On Friday 8 March, Maddison M-B (Yr 8) and Michelle I (Yr 10) attended the Aboriginal Dance Workshop at Engadine High School organised by the NSW Arts Unit and delivered by Bangarra Dance Theatre’s Rekindling program.

Congratulations to these students for their amazing work!

This term, the Languages Other Than English (LOTE) team at Dulwich High School of Visual Arts and Design has been dedicatedly fostering a spirit of global community through the learning of Japanese, taught by Mrs. Kim and Ms. Liu.

Our new SRC members were announced and welcomed at a recent school assembly.

This term Year 11 Physics students worked on their first assessment task that involved building a paddle boat and testing their creations, while Year 11 Biology students studied enzymes. 10 O and Year 11 Chemistry also went on a fun excursion to the Maritime Museum.

The School Based Apprenticeship and Traineeship (SBAT) program is a pathway to completing the HSC, that is known to few people, but represents a fantastic opportunity for students to finish Year 12 whilst also receiving industry recognised training and paid work.

Year 10 are doing a good job settling into senior school and are learning about the new expectations around study.

Following our successful Mini Careers Expo, five students from Year 10 were invited to attend Surveying Unleashed, a full day workshop hosted by Surveying Careers at Walsh Bay.

On a recent scorching hot, 40+ degree day, Year 9 Food Technology got busy shaking and creating ice-cold mocktails as part of their current unit: Food in Australia.

Our annual Open Night took place in March where we invited primary school parents and students inside our school to see the wonderful learning spaces as well as the great initiatives and opportunities DHSVAD offers.

In March, Year 7, the Support Unit and Year 11 Ancient History students went on an adventure to the Australian Museum to explore the exhibition ‘Ramses & the Gold of the Pharaohs’.

Thirteen dance students from Dulwich High School of Visual Arts & Design's Dance Ensemble graced the stage of Ken Rosewall Arena on Friday,15 March, as part of the Secondary Mass Dance Ensemble for Pulse Alive 2024.

Well done to all our students who worked hard to complete NAPLAN tests this term! As we approach Term 2, we have included the list of texts students will be studying and are continuing our mission to strengthen our school's reading culture.

The NSW Premier's Reading Challenge is now open and DHSVAD is excited to be participating!

Dulwich Year 7 students have now completed the Peer Support Program, thank you to our Year 10 student who have done an amazing job mentoring our new students.

During the Open Girls Netball Knockout Tournament held on on 18 March 2024, The Dully Diamonds faced off against Georges River Secondary College in a thrilling match.

Students from Drama and Entertainment were offered the opportunity to join the production crew of the Short and Sweet Short Play Festival as stage hands and technical assistants.

It is really difficult to believe that we are almost halfway through the first term of the year!

Over the past three weeks, students at Dulwich High School of Visual Arts and Design have been actively engaged in the Optus Digital Thumbprint program. This is a government-accredited initiative designed to equip young people with vital skills for navigating the online world safely and responsibly.
