Enrolment Procedure

Harewood School | Te Kura o Tāwera is governed by an enrolment scheme, please see information below. Please see the attached Information Booklet below for information on our school

Prospective New Entrant children have two two pre-entry visits before they start school (please see the New Entrant information booklet attached below).

At Harewood School | Te Kura o Tāwera we do not have cohort entry for New Entrant students. This means that students can start school as soon as they turn five years old. Parents and caregivers are able to choose a later start date as long as their child begins school before their sixth birthday.

Enrolment Scheme

The geographic area described in the scheme shall stand fast and shall operate as the school’s home zone, under section 11D of the Education Act 1989. All students who live within the home zone described below shall be entitled to enrol at the school. Proof of residence within the home zone will be required.

All students who live within the home zone described below (and shown on the attached map below) shall be eligible to enrol at the school.

Out Of Zone Enrolments

Each term the Board will determine the number of places available in the following term for the enrolment of students who live outside the home zone.  Application deadlines and ballot dates are listed below. The Board will publish this information by notice in a daily or community newspaper circulating in the area served by the school. The notice will indicate how applications are to be made and will specify a date by which all applications must be received.

To put your child's name down on the ballot list please complete the application form via this link - Out of Zone Ballot Form . Applications must be received by the deadline date and time for the term you wish to ballot for. You will be contacted within three days of the ballot date via email to advise if you have been successful or not in obtaining a place. Families have 14 days to accept or reject the offer of a place.

Applications for enrolment will be processed in the following order of priority:

  1. First priority must be given to any applicant who is accepted for enrolment in a special programme run by the school (not applicable at our school).

  2. Second priority must be given to any applicant who is the sibling of a current student of the school.

  3. Third priority must be given to any student who is the sibling of a former student of the school

  4. Fourth priority must be given to any applicant who is a child of a former student of the school.

  5. Fifth priority must be given to any applicant who is either a child or an employee of the board of the school or a child of a member of the board of the school.

  6. Sixth priority must be given to all other applicants.

If there are more applicants in the second, third, fourth, fifth or sixth priority groups than there are places available, selection within the priority group will be by a ballot conducted in accordance with instructions issued by the Secretary for Education under Section 11 A (1) of the Education Act 1989. Parents will be informed of the date of any ballot by notice in a daily or community newspaper circulating in the area served by the school.

Out of Zone Enrolments Scheme Dates for 2025 / Term 1 2026:

  • For children who wish to enrol in Term 2 2025, application deadline 4pm Wednesday 12 March 2025 with the ballot taking place on Friday 14 March.

  • For children who wish to enrol in Term 3 2025, applicationsdeadline 4pm Wednesday 28 May 2025 with the ballot taking place on Friday 30 May.

  • For children who wish to enrol in Term 4 2025, application deadline 4pm Wednesday 20 August 2025 with the ballot taking place on Friday 22 August.

  • For children who wish to enrol Term 1 2026, application deadline 4pm Wednesday 15 October 2025 with the ballot taking place on Friday 17 October 2026.
