Welcome Pack - International Students

Library / Whare pukapuka

Hobsonville School’s library is situated in the centre of the school.
by Hobsonville School Office

The library is open daily for class visits and also at morning tea and lunchtimes. Students can search for information, read for pleasure, return and issue books and listen to audio stories during these times. Library books are issued to our Junior students for 6 days.

Teachers bring classes to the library for a 45 minute session per week. During this time students are encouraged to borrow books for personal reading and to develop a range of skills from book care, progressing to information gathering for inquiry learning.

Students from Years 6 to 8 are encouraged to apply to be Student Librarians. Successful applicants are trained throughout the year to assist with issuing and returning of books, shelving, displays and other library duties.

We are proud of our collection of books that allow our students to explore a full range of interests and genres. We are fortunate to be able to introduce new books to our library each week, which the teachers include as part of the library session. Our goal is to encourage students to foster a love of literature and become “lifelong readers”.

You can access our Library Web App from the Hobsonville School website. This is a great way to read about library happenings and events. It engages students and encourages interest in reading and information discovery. We also encourage our Y4-8 students to borrow ebooks from the web app, giving them free access to reading.

Please provide a plastic bag or Book Bag in your child’s school bag to protect library books when taking them home. There is a charge for the replacement of lost and/or damaged books.

Please encourage your children to enjoy the library!
